Rental Bridge Program
Description
The Rental Bridge Program is a temporary rental assistance program for income-targeted and employed households who live or want to live in the Lake Norman area of North Carolina. Through our rental assistance, we help people in either Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson, NC attain affordable rent so they can live in the communities where they work. The Rental Bridge Program is not an emergency housing or government voucher program. Participants agree to actively engage and complete a series of financial coaching sessions and may receive other services to enrich their financial wellbeing. The Rental Bridge Program is a one-year program.
Program Eligibility
To qualify to apply, applicants must:​​

• Want to rent or currently renting in either Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson, North Carolina.
• Employed in either Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson, North Carolina.
• Be 21 years of age or older.
• Currently paying rent that is greater than 35% of the applicant’s gross income. According to federal statistics if a household is paying more than 30-35% of their income in housing costs they are “cost burdened.” The goal of our rental program is to provide assistance of no more than $500/month that will take a household to 30% housing cost.
• Earn 50-100% of the average median household income (AMI) in Mecklenburg County. Please refer to the H.U.D income chart on our website, to determine minimum and maximum income based on household size.
• No evictions in past 7 years and ​no past-due rental payments for the past 2 years.
• Rent from a property provider or management company that is willing to receive partial, monthly rental payments from Lake Norman CDC.

Program Timing
A person may apply at any time. A person may apply for rental assistance where they currently live or for where they are moving to in the future. If a person is seeking a new rental location, it is recommended that they apply to find out how much rental assistance they qualify to receive. Application reviews typically take up to 4 weeks from the time all required documents and completed application are received. We do not have the ability to prioritize applications based on moving dates or lease renewal dates.

Apply
Before you apply, please review and download the HUD AMI Income chart below to see if you meet the minimum and maximum income requirements for the Rental Bridge Program. If so, then download and complete the fillable Rental Bridge application and the two attachments below.

Select
Choose the property where you want to live. Lake Norman CDC cannot provide a list of recommended properties, but it is important the property is located in the towns of Cornelius, Davidson or Huntersville. Also, make sure the property provider or management company will accept third-party rental assistance payments from Lake Norman CDC. The Rental Bridge Application Attachment PMC below should be completed by the property provider or management company confirming this acceptance.

Finalize
It typically takes up to 4 weeks to process a Rental Bride Program application. If approved, the applicant agrees to commit and actively engage in customized financial education workshops provided by HUD-certified housing counselors and community partners of Lake Norman CDC.

Download the fillable Rental Bridge Program application and the two attachments below, complete and send with all required documentation via email to: kfountain@lakenormancdc.org. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged within 2 business days. Process and review of the application generally takes about 2 to 4 weeks. We will contact you with any clarification questions.
